On 7 July 2026, residents from Grace Lodge enjoyed a pleasant outing to the Singapore Garden Festival at Gardens by the Bay. The visit provided an opportunity for residents to explore a variety of horticultural displays and spend quality time together in a refreshing, outdoor, natural environment.
During the visit, the residents viewed a range of exhibits and admired the floral competition displays, in which beautifully-arranged flowers and creative horticultural exhibits were showcased by gardening enthusiasts. They were impressed by the vibrant colours, intricate arrangements, and skills involved in producing such stunning floral presentations.
The group also spent time looking at edible and ornamental plants, including vegetables, herbs and fruit-bearing plants, as well as displays showcasing home-gardening concepts.
Another highlight of the visit was the collection of bonsai plants and miniature tree displays. The residents were fascinated by the carefully-shaped plants, as well as appreciated the patience, dedication, and craftsmanship required to cultivate them over many years. Many took the opportunity to observe the unique forms and share their own gardening experiences.
Throughout the outing, residents engaged in friendly conversations, exchanged gardening tips, and enjoyed reminiscing about plants that they had grown in the past. The peaceful surroundings and beautiful greenery created a relaxing atmosphere that encouraged social interaction and emotional well-being. The trip was made possible through the support of Grace Lodge staff and volunteers, who ensured that all residents were comfortable and safe throughout the visit. Their assistance allowed everyone to fully enjoy the experience at a comfortable pace.
Overall, the excursion to the Singapore Garden Festival was an enjoyable and meaningful experience. It provided residents with an opportunity to appreciate nature, discover different plant species, and spend a memorable day together outside their usual surroundings. Caring for our elders is not simply a social responsibility but a profound privilege. In accompanying them through gardens filled with colours and life, we were also reminded that every human being is, in essence, a living garden shaped by time, nurtured by love, and leaving behind seeds of compassion for future generations. May we continue to cultivate communities where every stage of life is honoured, every story is heard, and every individual is valued as an irreplaceable flower in the shared garden of humanity.
